Personal Background

I was born in Chicago and have been a South Florida resident since the age of 4. I fondly recall weekends spent with my Dad, fishing the clear waters of Biscayne Bay, the Florida Keys, the 10,000 Islands and Bimini. We watched the humble beginnings of the Miami Dolphins grow to become Super Bowl champions. We attended every home game in the Orange Bowl during the magical Perfect Season of 1972. It was a special time growing up in South Florida in the 1960's and 1970's.

I am still a big fan of the Miami Dolphins and enjoy collecting memorabilia from the '72 team. It was a thrill to attend the 2 day, 30th reunion event and meet and speak with all of the players and coaches.

I have been a vinyl record and audio enthusiast since the 70s and enjoy putting together vintage 70s and 80s stereo sound systems. I particularly enjoy folk, jazz and classic rock. After many years of singing karaoke, my son Josh and I have been going to local open mic events. Josh plays electric guitar and I sing. We also enjoy going to concerts and have been fortunate to meet many of the performers.

My Father, Herbert Gold, escaped from Nazi Germany in 1937 at the age of 10 and my Grandparents, Louis and Rosel Goldschmidt, moved the family to Chicago with everything they owned contained in a few suitcases.

Dad attended High School in Chicago, where he trained as a diesel mechanic and boxed in Golden Gloves matches. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II on PT boats in the Philippines. After the war, Dad worked as a union steam pipe fitter in Chicago and later opened his own air conditioning and refrigeration business in Miami. He was a great example of strength, perseverance and courage.

My mother Charleen, was a very kind and gentle lover of animals and nurtured my early enthusiasm for books, learning and school. Tragically, she lost her battle with cancer when I was 9.

My Stepmom, Shirley Roberts,  possessed charisma very interesting friends who encouraged me to be independent in thought and action and to pursue my professional career.

My personal background helps me relate to all types of people and situations. It has laid the foundation for my education and work life and continues to provide me with inspiration for improving people's lives through the protection of rights and pursuit of justice
